CHOICES

CHOICES

In life every one on the planet makes choices. Choices that are good or bad, we still make them. As soon as a person wakes up there are choices to make. The meaning of choice is the act of choosing; the voluntary act of selecting or separating from two or more things that which is preferred; the determination of the mind in preferring one thing to another; election.

In Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken", he gives a great example of himself making a choice. He is the main character in his poem and the two choices he is faced with is a yellow wood with two roads. In the first stanza he mentions himself looking down two roads but studying one more then the other. Also in the first stanza he mentions that he can not take two roads at the same time so he waits until he makes up his mind. The traveler does not choose the first he takes the second road. The reason he made his final choice was that after looking and thinking through in which road to pick he thought about the road that was chosen less and left the first one for another day. In the last line Frost tries to base his choice on his life since both roads have different impacts. The less traveled road really refers to the saying "Don't be a follower be a leader". Why should he pick the same road that everyone else has? That is the symbolism of this poem. A person does not let another person make choices for them. Everyone has a mind of there own. Two roads that look the same. They are not! Even when they both look alike. He doesn't really have a dilemma he has a choice to make. The reason he picks the second road is that the first road was more preferably choosen and more worked so he decided to pick the road that was less chosen. He has a different mind set, apperantly he is adventurous and likes a challenge. He wants more life lessons. This poem should reflect on everyone manly because everyone has choices to make whether they are wrong or right.

In the short story "Dead End" by Rudolfo Anaya, the main character Maria is a senior in high school she is a grade a student but she is being pear pressured into being someone she is not. When her mother died she had told her to keep on with her studies, and that is when her choice in life started. She had a crush on Franky the most popular boy in school and no one messed with him. But did she really have to change her ways just so he can like her. Is maria really going to stop her studies to be as much of a delinquent as the other girls in her school. She actually made the right choice. As her last year in high school, she wasn't going to ruin her plans in life for a boy or for any one teasing her.

So you see every day people make choices everyday but the most important part of making these choices are making the right ones. These two people have been brought with choices to make and they both thought them out thoroughly. Thorough choice making make good choice making
